About Us
Hi There, I’m Karen and I have had The White Horse for 15 years, and have been in the trade for the past 20 years. The White Horse is reputedly the oldest public house in Chorleywood, and the earliest known reference is from 1778, when George Wilson paid tithe on land 'opposite the White Horse in Chorleywood hamlet. The original building is dated from at least two hundred years earlier and was extensively rebuilt in the seventeenth century.
I am a Fellow of the British Institute of Innkeepers, a Tenant Trainer and represent other Greene King tenants on the Tenant Development Group Forum – have got the hang of running a Pub now! Most of my team have been with me for some years and we try to maintain a friendly atmosphere and strive to give excellent value for money. Most of our dishes are made in house, and where it says ‘Home made’ is most certainly is. We use the same meat, fresh vegetables and fish supplier that I have used for the past 17 years and their products cannot be beaten for quality, I just have to pay a bit more! During my ‘Stewardship’ we have won a number of awards including The Cask Marque from the Real Ale enthusiasts, an accolade from The Health & Safety at Work department, and recently we won the Green King Pub Garden competition.
For those of you who still like to exercise the right to smoke, we have a warm, dry and well lit area just a few steps from the French doors. We welcome dogs, but please keep them on their lead, and there are always dog biscuits, water and little treats for them, but we do ask the owners if we can give them these things.
We all look forward to meeting you and are pleased to hear any comments you have be they good or bad. If we can improve our service then we certainly will, but we need your input too. Enjoy your visit, and we all look forward to meeting you.
